ACTIVITIES 2013-2014 (a part for 2015)
 
JSNFS council holds a General Assembly Meeting, 6 Council Meetings, 6 Executive Member’s Meetings, etc. a year. The activities currently carried out by JSNFS are as follows:
 
The council held the 67th and the 68th Annual Meetings (2013 and 2014, respectively), published bimonthly two official journals [Nippon Eiyō Shokuryō Gakkaishi (Journal of JSNFS) in Japanese and Journal of Nutritional Science and Vitaminology (JNSV) in English], updated its home page including its English version, and sent monthly EiShoku News (a direct mail magazine to members).
  1. The 67th Annual Meeting was held during May 24-26, 2013, in Nagoya City, organized by Prof. Yoshiharu Shimomura in Chubu Branch of JSNFS. The official society’s session, including general assembly, and all scientific sessions were held at the Toyota auditorium and the Higashiyama campus of Nagoya University. This meeting had about 2,000 participants and 703 presentations including the invited honorary lectures, special lectures, the plenary lectures, 47 lectures at symposia, 3 lectures at a satellite symposium, and 630 regular papers.

  2. The 68th Annual Meeting of the Society was held during May 30-June 1, 2014, in Sapporo and Ebetsu Cities, organized by Prof. Hiroshi Hara in Hokaido Branch of JSNFS. The official society sessions, including general assembly, were held at Sapporo Education and Culture Hall in Sapporo, and all scientific sessions were held at the campus of Rakuno Gakuen University, Ebetu. This meeting had 1,784 participants and 747 presentations including special lectures, 6 plenary lectures, 66 lectures at symposia, 3 lectures at a satellite symposium, and 662 regular papers.

    3. Seven Regional branches held their own annual meetings and symposia.
      1. Hokkaido Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Michihiro Fukushima, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, 151 members). The 44th Annual Meeting of Hokkaido Branch and an open symposium “Challenges toward improvement of taste, quality, and physiological functions of the stock farm products” were held on November 1, 2014 at the campus of Hokkaido University.
         
      2. Tohoku Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Ikuo Ikeda, Tohoku University, 244 members). The 48th Annual Meeting of Tohoku Branch and an open symposium on “Fats and health” were held on November 1, 2014, at the campus of Tohoku University.
         
      3. Kanto Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Motoni Kadowaki, Niigata University, 1,633 members). The 93rd Annual Meeting of Kanto Branch and a symposium on “The forefront of amino acid, peptide research–from aspect of nutrition, molecular biology and sitology” were held on March 1, 2014 at the Setagaya campus of Tokyo University of Agriculture. The 94th Annual Meeting of Kanto Branch and a symposium on “Metabolic signals connecting between diet and health” were held on November 22, 2014, at the Setagaya campus of Tokyo University of Agriculture. The 95th Annual Meeting of Kanto Branch and a symposium on “Frontier of lipid soluble vitamin research” will be held on March 14, 2015 at the campus of Ochanomizu University. The 16th Lipid Nutrition Symposium entitled “Cutting edge of fatty acid and cholesterol studies” was held on February 1, 2014, at the campus of Ochanomizu University. The 17th Lipid Nutrition Symposium entitled “Lifestyle to prevent accumulation of visceral fats” will be held on February 21, 2015, at Seiryo Kaikan.
         
      4. Chubu Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Toshinao Goda, University of Shizuoka, 492 members). The 66th Annual Meeting of Chubu and a symposium entitled on “Food and nutritional science and pharmacological science” were held on July 12, 2014, at the campus of University of Shizuoka. The 67th Annual Meeting of Chubu Branch, and presentation of regular papers and a special lecture were held on November 22, 2014, at the campus of University of Shizuoka.
         
      5. Kinki Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Katsumi Shibata, The University of Shiga Prefecture, 913 members). The 53rd Annual Meeting of Kinki Branch, presentation of regular papers, and symposium on “Science and culture for Washoku” were held on October 25, 2014, at the campus of Kyoto Prefectural University. The 5rd Forum for young investigator on “Considering double burden of malnutrition and weight control” was held on December 6, 2014 at the campus of Kyoto Women’s University.
         
      6. Chugoku-Shikoku Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Kentaro Sakai, Hiroshima Jogakuin University, 406 members). The 47th Annual Meeting of Chugoku-Shikoku Branch, Open Forum for Citizen, special lectures, and presentation of general papers were held on November 15-16, 2014, at Shikoku University.
         
      7. Kyushu-Okinawa Branch (President of a Local Section: Prof. Kazuhiko Yamada, Kagawa Nutrition University, 391 members). The Open Forum for Citizen of Kyushu-Okinawa Branch on “Considering food and health”, 2014 annual meeting of Kyushu-Okinawa Branch, and presentation of general papers were held on October 11-12, 2014, at the campus of Prefectural University of Kumamoto.

    International Activities
    1. JSNFS represents Japan in FANS.
       
    2. JSNFS will hold the 12th Asian Congress of Nutrition (ACN2015) on May 14-18, 2015 in Yokohama City. The detail of the preparation is described below.
       
    3. JSNFS fully supports the IUNS subcommittee of Science Council of Japan and thereby has been making a significant contribution to the activities of IUNS.
       
    4. The JSNFS council informed and encouraged the members to participate in IUNS 20th International Congress of Nutrition held in September 2013 in Granada.
       
    5. The JSNFS collaborated with Science Council of Japan and The Japanese Society of Nutrition and Dietetics to invite 22nd ICN2021 to Tokyo. The city for 22nd ICN2021 was decided to be Tokyo by the vote at the IUNS meeting in Granada on September 18, 2013. In this meeting, Prof. Miyazawa has been elected as one of the Council members of the IUNS.
       
    6. The JSNFS held the IUNS workshop on Capacity and Leadership Development in Nutritional Sciences at National Institute of Health and Nutrition and a nearby facility for field trip on March 11-13, 2014. Principal local organizing members of the workshop were Prof. Makoto Shimizu as a representative, IUNS Committee of the Science Council of Japan, Prof. Teruo Miyazawa as an IUNS Council Member, Prof. Hisanori Kato as a Chair of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Yukari Takemi as a Chair of the Executive board, and Prof. Nobuo Nishi as a Chief of the Secretariat.
       
    7. JSNFS has concluded Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Korean Nutrition Society for further collaborations and exchanges. This is the fourth agreement with societies in Asian countries.
       
    8. JSNFS has concluded MOU with Chinese Nutrition Society (CNS) and American Society for Nutrition (ASN) for collaborations and exchanges.
       
    9. As described above, we hold International Symposium during annual meeting of the society. Many renowned researchers from over the world were invited and delivered lectures.
       
    10. Upon requests from other countries, JSNFS recommended appropriate speakers from Japan for symposia and other types of meetings.
