1. Two biennial conferences were held in December, 2011 and 2014. The theme of the first conference was “Nutrition and Iodized Salt” while the theme of the second conference was” Healthy Child is the benchmark of Development.” Iodine deficiency is a common nutritional problem in developing countries including Pakistan. The government of Pakistan has initiated a programme to iodize salt which is available in the market but many people are not using it even though a substantial effect of iodized salt on the reduction of iodine deficiency has been observed, The iodized salt is being used by 65% families in Pakistan and increase from 15% in the last two decades.

2. Training Workshop on “Composition and Nutritional Evaluation of Food” regularly conducted every six months. The number of diets consumed in the country are enormous. The chemical composition of many diets consumed by the rural masses and those living in the mountainous regions are still not known. Food composition is, therefore, an important activity of the society. The President of the society is Advisor to the SAARCFOODS, a regional centre for food data system of FAO for the SAARC countries.

3. Conducted a 3-day workshop for nurses in collaboration with NWG Hospital, Sept.5-7, 2013. The focus of the training is on the general principles of nutrition and the nutritional support needed by the hospitalized patient.

The hospital celebrates the senior citizens day every year by inviting people of the age of 60 years and above and introducing them to the nutritional demands of that age group. Nutrition of the elderly is becoming an important issue as the lifespan of the elderly people is increasing as well as their number.

The Secretary General attended a workshop in Islamabad 0n 16-17 December, 2013 organized by Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform to establish “Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN), a UN program in the country.
